  • Valve shuts down talk of a new console, working on other projects

Earlier this week rumors of a “STEAM Box” circulated the web, now Valve wants to set the record straight.

Valve stopped short of saying they will never enter the console race but made it clear that it isn’t in the immediate future. Doug Lombardi, marketing director for Valve, told Kotaku that they are working on Steam Big Picture Mode, stating, “We’re prepping the Steam Big Picture Mode UI and getting ready to ship that, so we’re building boxes to test that on”.

Biometric-data was part of the “STEAM Box rumors” and it turns out that is something that Valve is working on, Lombardi told Kotaku, “We’re also doing a bunch of different experiments with biometric feedback and stuff like that, which we’ve talked about a fair amount… All of that is stuff that we’re working on, but it’s a long way from Valve shipping any sort of hardware.”
