Earlier today, Sony dropped a bombshell when it announced its acquisition of the cloud gaming service Gaikai. And what was Microsoft’s response to that news?
“We’re already doing cloud,” says Microsoft. “The cloud has been a key component of our strategy and a big area of investment with Xbox for many years…Through Xbox LIVE we’re serving up gaming and entertainment in the cloud to more than 40 million people.”
Interesting point, but that’s not really the same thing as cloud streaming of full games. Is that anywhere in MS’s future? “We’re committed to delivering extraordinary entertainment experiences across devices in a uniquely connected way through Xbox, Windows Phone, Windows 8 and other popular devices, and we’re looking forward to continuing to innovate in this space in the future.”
So the answer is; We don’t know. Cloud streaming: yay or nay? What if it involves backwards compatibility? Sound off below!
