A new ban on Microsoft “gun-like” avatar items will go into effect starting January 1st, 2012 for the XBLA Marketplace. 
 
If you already have these items you will be able to keep them, but they will no longer be kept on the XBLA Marketplace after that. So get moving if you want to have these soon to be “rare” items.
 
The news broke after Epic Games warned gamers that the Lancer and Hammerburst will soon no longer be available.
 
Epic’s community manager Will Kinsler stated:

Heads up! Starting on Jan. 1, 2012, the Lancer and Hammerburst avatar items will no longer be available on Xbox LIVE Marketplace. If you’ve purchased the items prior to Jan. 1, you will be able to keep them. A new policy goes into effect for all gun-like avatar items on the Marketplace, so get them while they’re hot.
