Arkane Studios has answered a few more fan-questions this Friday, which means more of Dishonored’s dark and sorted secrets are revealed. The latest batch of answers shed some much-needed light on the stealth-aspect of the game.
We have already seen a few of the stealthy-assassinations of the game, courtesy of a few .gif files that have appeared on the Dishonored tumbler account. Arkane Studios states that in the game, the AI characters will have “several states of ‘alertness’” as they patrol or appear in the title. Arkane studios describes these levels as (totally unsuspecting, to suspecting, to aware). An interesting point is that if you are spotted or cause some commotion, guards will never return to the “unsuspecting” rate again. Which is a very realistic addition to a stealth game.
Other useful tidbits of information are that AI can communicate to each other, or to “allies within range and therefore they let each other know about the presence of the player when he’s been spotted”. If you are hoping for multiple playthroughs (Arkane says the game is about 14hrs long depending on how you play) then there is some hope of re-playability. “We encourage multiple playthroughs with Dishonored as 1) you can’t get all the powers and upgrades in one playthrough, and 2) there are different endings based on how you play: surgical assassin or sneaker vs. brutal killer”.
