We’re back with another edition of Fastest Lap With The Tone! Turn 10 has decided to grace us with not 3, not 6, but 9 reveals per day starting this week, so as you can imagine, I’ve got my hands full with automotive goodness. And with that, let’s get started!
1. 2011 Tesla Roadster Sport
2. 1965 Ford Mustang GT Coupe
3. 2011 Koenigsegg Agera
It was an extremely tough decision not to write about the Mustang this week since I am such a fan of classic muscle cars, but I just couldn’t pass up the opportunity to write about the Agera. This car is a serious piece of technology, and an absolutely mindblowingly cool looking car. Koenigsegg already has a reputation for making some pretty hardcore cars; the CCX, for example, is no joke. But it’s almost as if the engineers at Koenigsegg locked themselves into a room, asked each other what the most ridiculous thing about cars that they could think of, and all agree to just do it.
“Agera” is the Swedish term “to act.” It’s the successor to the CCX; which, as I mentioned above, was one serious crazy car. The Agera has a 5.0L twin-turbocharged V8 capable of 940 BHP. Let me repeat that; NINE…HUNDRED….AND…FORTY BHP. It weighs 2,832 lbs and develops 812 lbs/ft. of torque at 5,100 RPM. It has a top speed of 245 MPH and can go from 0-60 in 3.0 seconds. The front is as wide as the back, giving it tremendous balance and handling through corners.
The Agera has ceramic disc brakes that incorporate an adjustable ABS system, giving it fantastic braking capabilities with zero fade regardless of track or road conditions. It has a new traction control system that is the fastest reacting in the automotive industry. The system will auto adapt to different road conditions and driving styles on the fly, with an option to set it manually. The interior is both simplistic and technologically advanced at the same time.
The Agera is more computer than it is car. Normally for me, that’s a big turn-off for a car. I don’t believe a car should become so much of a computer that it takes the soul out of driving. However, I’m forced to eat my words a little bit, as the Agera seems to be a perfect balance between the two, presenting unparallel technology while still remaining a driver’s car.
