  • Could There Be An Assassin’s Creed 10?

Ubisoft’s North America executive director Laurent Detoc suggest that there can never be too many sequels, and sees no issue with annualizing major franchises.

When asked if he would like to see an eighth, ninth and tenth installments in the Assassin’s Creed franchise, Detoc responded, ““I hope we will…I also hope we’ll be able to branch out from within the franchise.

It’s very simple to me. There’s no such thing as not being able to annualize a franchise. If it’s good, people will come
    .”

This is related to some recent news that Assassin’s Creed 3 was made possible by the annualization of the Ezio AC games. Says Alex Hutchinson, creative director for AC 3: “The core team on this one has been working at it for almost three years, which is something you can almost never get in the industry these days – it’s too expensive, too risky. So we need the other projects to support that kind of development – these big jumps.

It’s funny, people say it’s about how often you release new entries, but I really think it’s about how good they are. If they put out Breaking Bad every day I’d watch it every day. I wouldn’t need other TV. So I think this usually comes up when people aren’t satisfied with something we did
    .”

What do you think of the practice of annualizing a franchise? Do you not care as long as the quality remains high? Or is this something that you can’t really get on board with? SOund off below!

The issues with annualized games is how much new they create year to year. Even the big one Call of Duty has two different studios alternating, giving the game a different flavor each year. Look at what happened with Guitar Hero when it was just a different band for each release; the market got way over saturated when there wasn’t enough difference between it’s own products.Personally I dropped into Assassin’s Creed on the II and didn’t really pay any attention to the other releases as it seemed like more of the same. AC3 however seems to offer enough change that I’m actually really interested in getting it.If the game continues and it’s just similar but slightly different settings/times but the exact same gameplay, that has the potential to get old real quick.I think if this game decides to do a ‘Future’ Assassin Creed which the characters jumping forward, I have a feeling it will have jumped the shark.
