Yesterday saw the release of CD Projekt RED’s first trailer for the upcoming title ‘Cyber Punk 2077′. The highly stylized trailer was an amazing display but left a lot of questions, now CD Projeckt RED is ready to answer some of them. 

 

The future is a bleak affair in ‘Cyberpunk 2077′, “Tech advancement went hand in hand with the decay of society” stated the developers in a press-release sent out this morning.

 

The same body augmentations that were invented to serve society, only multiplied the problems within it. These modified individuals continually cause problems and wreck-havoc in the streets. Body modification became a new addiction and “poverty became an even larger problem”, stated the development team. The title takes place in ‘Night City’ and is the story of one individual who was “raised on the streets” and “who tries to lift himself up from the gutter and find a way to survive amongst booster gangs and megacorporations in a city of filth and sin”. This according to the press-release.

 

In the game drugs, violence, poverty and exclusion haven’t disappeared. The developers warn players that by 2077 “new issues have appeared”. Those issues surround the ‘Brain Dance’ the biggest fad in pop-culture in Night City. CD Projekt RED talks about the popular craze in the press-release stating:

Braindances are digital recordings of a person’s experience. The viewer can stream a braindance directly into his neural system via special brain augmentations, called a BD player. Braindances allow the viewer to experience all brain processes registered, including emotions, muscle movements and all stimuli perceived by the recording person.

 

The range of themes of these recordings varies from simple braindances made by megacorporations, which e.g. allow the viewer to feel the full experience of an explorer with all its thrills, sweats, smells, views, sounds and the real feeling of curiosity that pushes men to go beyond the horizon against fear and physical weakness. But there are also more controversial sides of braindance, because some recordings are created illegally in the underground. Entering the mind of a serial killer means not only seeing the monstrosity he performs, but also living his lust to kill and fulfillment”.

In the game people that use the new ‘Braindance Entertainment’ are everywhere. Players will learn that “some people push it even too far and they cannot stop living other people’s lives” and when they are not linked to a brain dance they are “probably discussing what happened to you during your last session”.

 

CD Proeckt RED released this .pdf that warns people of consequences of the ‘Brain Dance’, the new craze on the streets and the plot of the game. In the world of 2077, the gap between high and low is bigger than ever. Projekt RED asks, “Will you be able to function in this defunct society or end up a BD-junky with nothing left, set aside like garbage – still living someone’s else life –not aware of what’s going on around you?”.

 

“Whether you like it or not – this is the age of brain dance decadence; this is Cyberpunk 2077″ warns CD Projekt RED.
